The Wilmington area's unemployment rate rose to 10.4 percent in June, the Employment Security Commission (ESC) said Friday.
That's up from 10.1 percent in June 2010.
This is when unemployment in rural areas is supposed to be higher than in urban areas. Now, I know the county isn't exactly rural, but it's moreso than the city.Rates in two of the counties that comprise the area also rose from a year earlier: New Hanover County, to 10.1 percent from 9.8 percent;
Maybe this has something to do with high tax rates decreasing population and job growth? Hmmm....
