Ok, this is dumb for a couple obvious reasons. But it also would allow the state subsidized college compete with the private hospitality industry. Unfair, fellas, unfair.
UNC Charlotte has offered to rent dorm rooms to nearly 1,500 visitors to the 2012 Democratic National Convention, a move that would delay the start of the fall semester by 25 days and cancel the traditional fall break.
[...]It's not clear whether convention organizers will accept the offer. [Chancellor] Dubois said the rooms could cost up to $500 per bed per night.
That's so the university can recover the estimated $3 million in revenue it would lose in housing costs as well as losses in such areas as food services, bookstore purchases and parking costs.
