The President & CEO of New Orleans’ Downtown Development District will give an overview of how the downtown district works during Wilmington Downtown Inc.’s economic series Thursday at the convention center.
Kurt Weigle told the StarNews during a phone interview Friday that DDD is the nation’s oldest Business Improvement District, formed in the 1970s. The BID, known here as a Municipal Services District, puts a tax on downtown property owners. In New Orleans, it’s an additional 10 percent on downtown owners’ property taxes, Weigle said. In turn, residents and business owners get additional services.
