NC Sales Tax: 13th Highest in the Country

From The Tax Foundation:

North Carolina: 5.75% (State tax rate); 2.07% (Local tax rate); 7.82% (Total); 13 (Rank in the country)

Here in New Hanover, our local sales taxes are higher that the state average: 2.25%. This would make it the 11th highest if it were applied to the entire state.

Incidentally, NC also has the 13th largest budget deficit as a percent of its revenues of all the states.
